Built in 1973 as a reservoir part of the Tisza River flood control project, when finished in the 1990s the result was a 127 km² lake. Hungarians began to flock to the site for holidays, since it compared favorably with the more crowded and expensive Lake Balaton, the traditional holiday site. As a result, tourist infrastructure has been developed on the reservoir and the government has designated it an official tourism destination.
Today is Blog Action Day, an annual event held every October 15 that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day with the aim of sparking discussion around an issue of global importance.
The issue for this year is Climate Change, so on Naked Hungary we would like to talk about Carbon Footprint today. A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact our activities have on the environment, and in particular climate change. It relates to the amount of greenhouse gases produced in our day-to-day lives through burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation etc.
As we know most of Naked Hungary readers are people who tend to travel quite a lot, we thought of adding to this post a Carbon Footprint calculator, which not only makes you aware of your emissions of carbon footprint, but also gives you a choice of offsetting it by making an offer to the organization of your choice.
It’s pretty easy to use; enter the airport you are flying from, the destination airport, then calculate and, the most important part, choose to “Offset Now” and choose the way you prefer to do it. As we once saw written on the Berlin wall: “Many small people who in many small places do many small things can alter the face of the world”
